Coop Pronto, part of the Coop Group, is a familiar presence across Switzerland. From roadside fuel stations to compact stores in busy train stations, its outlets are designed for speed, convenience, and accessibility. Looking to elevate the customer experience, Coop Pronto set out to rethink its checkout approach, introducing a hybrid self-checkout solution that could seamlessly switch between manned and self-service modes, depending on the store format and operational needs.

Designing a Dual-Purpose Checkout
The heart of the solution is a counter-mounted 550mm base pole, fitted with two key attachments that make the setup both practical and adaptable. At the top, a fixed screen serves exclusively as a customer-facing display, ensuring clear visibility during staffed checkout operations. Below, a custom heavy-duty gas arm supports both the operating screen and the printer, engineered to handle the combined weight while allowing smooth height adjustment and rotation for staff use.

This configuration allows the checkout station to flex between staffed and self-service use, adapting to the needs of each store. It is a true hybrid setup, ergonomic, space efficient and built for flexibility. Every aspect was carefully considered, from how cables are routed, and weight is distributed to how the station fits into the rhythm of daily operations.

Through extensive factory testing and on-site trials, the setup was refined to meet the needs of each location.
